The research based project When They Speak, developed by Alicia Jeannin as part of her residency at Bucharest AiR in the spring of 2021, aims to apprehend the relationship between performativity and political expression, through a theoretical and practical exploration of political speeches performed in public space. The project encompassed sound, video, installations and performances with a participative dimension. For two months, Bucharest has been the territory of an extended laboratory in which Alicia transported and translated her practice.

When they speak is an artistic research that explores the performative dimension of political and public expression. During her residency in Bucharest, Alicia Jeannin invited the audience to a playful and hopeful Open Lab, to make, create and share new experiences of listening, watching, speaking and acting.
